Friends of the American Society for AI,
On March 5, 2025, we had the privilege of hosting a private dinner with leading Senators and Congressmen in Washington DC to discuss the future of AI.
For three hours, we engaged in deep, thoughtful discussions about AI's future -- and we left feeling incredibly optimistic about the path ahead for AI policy in the United States. We are truly in exciting times, and it is clear that the best is yet to come for our nation.
We were joined by leaders from the AI Caucus (from the Senate) and the AI Task Force (from the House), who are all doing incredible work to ensure the United States remains the leader in artificial intelligence and that all Americans prosper from it.
AI has so many important implications, and it is great to see bipartisan support for this critical technology and both sides of the aisle coming together.
During dinner, we discussed the need to ensure American preeminence in AI. Specifically, we discussed how to better communicate about potential benefits and opportunities AI might bring for American citizens, whether the federal government should preempt state regulation, whether AI developers should be protected from liability, and the need for sector-specific approach to AI. We covered topics related to the intersection of AI with energy, education, cryptography, finance, and much more.A special thank-you to:
The dinner also included a few distinguished members from the Society of our Policy Committee: Amyn Jan, Aaron Poynton, Paul Daugherty, Michael Carey, Graham Ryan, Russ Wilcox, James Todaro, and Rei Llazani.
The American Society for AI is not a policy organization, but getting alignment on Capitol Hill with AI is something that is one of several focuses. Our Policy Committee, for instance, recently responded to NSF's AI Action Plan which we encourage you to read.
We look forward to continuing our mission of making the world a better place with AI.
