For Immediate Release - July 6, 2025 - San Francisco, California

San Francisco, California — July 6, 2025 — The American Society for AI, the leading nonprofit association for artificial intelligence, is pleased to announce the appointment of two distinguished leaders to its Board of Directors: Lt. Gen. Michael Groen (Ret., USMC) and AMD executive Ramine Roane.

Michael Groen, former director of the Department of Defense’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center, is a retired U.S. Marine Corps general with decades of leadership in defense strategy, national security, and emerging technologies. He is a nationally recognized expert on the intersection of artificial intelligence and public policy.

Ramine Roane, a senior AI and technology executive, serves as Corporate Vice President of AI at AMD, a global semiconductor company. He has played a key role in shaping AI deployment across cloud, edge, and enterprise platforms.

“We are only beginning to understand the transformational change that is headed our way, technologically and socially,” said Groen. “It is going to take committed professionals and associated organizations to guide this set of AI-influenced changes. ASFAI is at the forefront of this essential dialogue, and we’ve never been more needed.”

“AI is poised to transform every part of society,” said Roane. “The real challenge is not just what we build, but how we build it, guided by collaboration, openness, and thoughtful leadership across industry and society. ASFAI plays a vital role in fostering candid dialogue among AI leaders and helping ensure that innovation remains grounded in values that serve society at large.”

The addition of Groen and Roane reinforces ASFAI’s mission to convene leaders, guide innovation, and shape public discourse around the opportunities and implications of AI.

“We are thrilled to welcome Michael and Ramine to the board,” said Rei Llazani, President of the American Society for AI. “As part of our commitment to bringing together diverse perspectives and elite thinking across the full AI stack and a wide range of industries, their leadership and insight will be invaluable as we advance our mission at this pivotal moment in AI development.”
